NWC’s $586 Million Projects Across Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province

August 2024

The National Water Company (NWC) of Saudi Arabia, through its Eastern Cluster, has initiated 17 major infrastructure projects across the Eastern Province, with a total investment exceeding 2.2 billion Saudi Riyals ($586 million). These projects are strategically aimed at enhancing the region's environmental and water services infrastructure, particularly in the areas of wastewater treatment, pumping stations, power line installations, and network replacements. The overarching goal is to improve service delivery across various cities and governorates.

Al-Khobar Governorate

In Al-Khobar, NWC is spearheading several key projects, with a total investment of approximately 1.02 billion Saudi Riyals. The most significant of these is the expansion of the sewage treatment plant, a project with a budget exceeding 849 million Saudi Riyals ($226 million). Additionally, a sewage network project in Al Aziziyah, valued at over 160 million Saudi Riyals, is being developed to serve specific systems. Moreover, the completion of works for the operationalization of the Khobar Landmark Tower is estimated at over 14 million Saudi Riyals.

Al-Ahsa Governorate

In Al-Ahsa, six projects are underway with a combined value exceeding 496 million Saudi Riyals. These projects involve the completion of sewage networks in Hofuf and Al-Mubarz, extending networks to newly developed areas, and constructing a lift station and discharge line in Hofuf to prevent environmental damage.

Al Khafji Governorate

NWC is also focusing on Al Khafji, where three significant projects have commenced. These include doubling the capacity of the sewage treatment plant, completing sewerage facilities, and replacing existing water networks. The total investment in Al Khafji amounts to over 350 million Saudi Riyals.

Jubail Governorate

In Jubail, two projects have been launched, focusing on the construction of sewerage networks for various districts and enhancing the capacity of existing lift stations. These projects represent an investment of more than 255 million Saudi Riyals.

Qatif and Al-Qarya Al-Oliya Governorates

Additional projects are being implemented in the Qatif and Al-Qarya Al-Oliya Governorates, aimed at expanding sewage networks to serve new areas.

NWC's initiatives are part of a broader effort to strengthen water distribution, eliminate environmental damage, and contribute to the Kingdom's Vision 2030. By focusing on operational efficiency and water security, these projects are integral to the nation's long-term development goals.
