WEG takes part in one of the largest water infrastructure projects in Brazil

July 2022

The company supply will help to provide water to 70 municipalities in the State of Pernambuco and benefit more than 2 million people.

The increasing demand for water and wastewater projects in Brazil has stimulated the sector and brought opportunities to companies with experience in this business. Regarded as a traditional supplier of solutions for the segment, the increase of demand for WEG was already expected and the company is prepared to expand the business in this market.

After participating in large irrigation and desalination projects in other countries, such as Rabigh 3, in Saudi Arabia and Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), in India, WEG is now participating in one of the largest water infrastructure projects in Brazil, which is named Ramal do Agreste.

Designed to collect water from Barro Branco Reservoir, in Sertânia, state of Pernambuco, and pumping out into Ipojuca Reservoir in Arcoverde, state of Pernambuco, Ramal do Agreste will bring water to more than 2 million people in 70 municipalities in the State of Pernambuco.

One of the essential points for the performance and success of this project is the pumping system where WEG is taking part, supplying three 8000 kW 13,800 V motors through one of the main pump manufacturers in the world.

“We have built a global relationship structure with the world's leading engineering companies and pump manufacturers, and this has helped us not only to optimize efficient, reliable and flexible solutions, but also to guarantee the experience to meet the national demand, which has been intensifying with the new basic wastewater legal framework”, says Elder Stringari, WEG International Director.

Ramal do Agreste is one of Brazil´s, water projects under the responsibility of the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR) with investments in the range of R$ 1.6 billion (US$310,000).
