In early May, works are slated to kick off at the Tullow Wastewater Treatment plant, marking a significant upgrade for a Co Carlow town's wastewater treatment network. The €17 million overhaul, spearheaded by Uisce Éireann, aims to modernize and enhance the water treatment infrastructure in Tullow. Moreover, it seeks to bolster capacity and uplift water quality in the River Slaney.
This substantial investment follows last year's €10 million upgrade to the town's wastewater treatment plant. Carried out in collaboration with Carlow County Council, the current upgrade encompasses various facets. These include revamping the sewer network, including a river crossing segment; laying down new pipelines; constructing a new pumping station while decommissioning the old one; erecting a storm tank; and installing a new storm water overflow.
Throughout the project's progression, Uisce Éireann pledges to engage directly with affected stakeholders. They express gratitude to the local community for their anticipated patience and continuous support.
Esther White, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, underscores the project's significance in terms of health, environmental preservation, and the enhancement of water quality in the River Slaney. She emphasizes that the augmented capacity will not only benefit Tullow but also bolster social and economic growth in the town for years to come.
EPS has been tasked by Uisce Éireann to initiate works in early May, with the project scheduled for completion in 2026.
