In a move to enhance employment opportunities for Omani nationals, the Ministry of Labour has launched a joint programme with the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) and Nama Water Services, aiming to create 885 jobs in the public sector. The initiative is part of a broader government strategy to promote Omanisation and integrate national talent into vital sectors of the economy, particularly through technical roles.
The programme will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase, already underway, has resulted in the creation of 379 job opportunities. The second phase will introduce an additional 406 positions within Nama Water Services. Qais bin Saud al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services, confirmed, “The programme targets an Omanisation rate of 84%.” He also noted that selected candidates from the first phase will begin training next week.
A formal agreement was signed by H E Sayyid Salim bin Musallam al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Human Resources Development in the Ministry of Labour; Qais bin Saud al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services; and H E Dr Mansour bin Talib bin Ali al Hinai, Chairman of APSR.
The programme is designed to provide jobseekers with the practical skills and hands-on experience needed in the water services sector. It helps candidates identify potential career paths, gain specialised training, and develop in-demand skills. Participants will also undergo assessments to ensure they meet employment standards.
By focusing on building a technically skilled local workforce, the initiative not only supports sustainable employment but also strengthens essential public services. The collaboration is a key step toward achieving the government's long-term Omanisation objectives.
