Desalination: start-up Osmosun wins Euronext award for its containerised systems

April 2024

French startup Osmosun®, formerly known as Mascara NT, has set its sights on becoming a major player in global water treatment and brackish water desalination. With a focus on innovative solutions powered by renewable energy, the company has embarked on ambitious plans following a successful capital raise of €10.75 million through its listing on Euronext Growth® in July 2023.

The infusion of capital has catalyzed Osmosun®'s expansion efforts, with a particular emphasis on bolstering its workforce and enhancing its presence in key regions such as North Africa, notably Morocco. Quentin Ragetly, President and CEO of Osmosun®, highlights the significance of this financial milestone, stating, "Thanks to these funds, we have begun to develop our organization by recruiting new talent and expanding our local international presence in strategic regions such as North Africa, particularly Morocco. We have also signed new partnerships to consolidate our position in the desalination market while expanding into related markets."

In recognition of its growth trajectory, Osmosun® was honored with the Euronext IPO Award in the Small & Mid Cap category in March 2024, underscoring the company's appeal to investors. Euronext, the premier stock exchange in the eurozone, notes the strong demand for Osmosun® shares, with total demand exceeding the initial offer by 1.6 times.

Beyond fortifying its operations and market presence, Osmosun® is committed to addressing water accessibility challenges in underserved regions. With a presence in eight countries including Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Senegal, the company offers containerized water treatment and desalination units powered by solar energy and mini-grids. These systems, boasting daily production capacities ranging from 2,000 m3 to 50,000 m3, play a pivotal role in providing clean water to communities.

Additionally, Osmosun® has collaborated with Ecosun Innovation to introduce Osmo-Watt, a solution designed to deliver drinking water to remote and challenging terrains. Leveraging solar energy, Osmo-Watt's containerized system can produce between 5 and 100 m3 of drinking water per day, furthering Osmosun®'s mission to promote water security and sustainability.

Osmosun®'s strategic initiatives, fueled by recent capital infusion and industry recognition, position the company as a frontrunner in the global water treatment landscape, with a steadfast commitment to innovation and social impact.
