Panametrics, through its trusted Channel Partner, successfully delivered an advanced flow measurement solution for one of the largest Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plants in the MEATI region. The plant faced challenges in verifying its magnetic flowmeters, which required periodic calibration. Seeking a reliable, non-intrusive solution for large-diameter pipelines made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and GRP (glass-reinforced plastic), the plant turned to Panametrics for its expertise in ultrasonic flow measurement technology.

During a trial, Panametrics demonstrated its Transport PT900 and Aquatrans AT600 ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters on a DN1200 (48”) GRP pipeline with a 7 mm wall thickness. Using CRS401 (0.5 MHz) and CRR592 (1 MHz) transducers, clamping fixtures, cables, and Solid Pad Couplant CPL-8, the solution delivered a 1% to 2% correlation with the plant’s existing magnetic flowmeters. This validation confirmed the accuracy, reliability, and ease of use of Panametrics’ technology compared to competitors.

Following the trial’s success, the customer installed Panametrics’ flowmeters permanently on the main outlet line. The plant now utilizes fixed PT900 and AT600 flowmeters for continuous monitoring and employs a portable system for periodic checks. This non-intrusive solution eliminated the need for mechanical modifications and ensured uninterrupted operations.

Thanks to Panametrics’ innovative approach, the SWRO desalination plant has significantly improved process monitoring, achieved precise water balance calculations, and enhanced overall productivity. The project underscores Panametrics’ ability to provide cutting-edge flow measurement solutions for complex industrial applications in the MEATI region.
